The Ringwood Schoolboy Scramble Club was formed in the Autumn of 1967 by a small group of local enthusiasts, many of whom were related to each other, so the club was in those days very much a family affair. Schoolboy Scrambling in those days was a fast growing sport, and the Ringwood club were proud of the fact that they were among the pioneers of the movement and that we were one of the founder members of the British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association (BSMA) in November 1970.
In those day's the club was solely for school children under school leaving age, and as the sport grew, so did the RSSC, hosting one of the sports first ever Schoolboy Nationals - the Southern National. The Ringwood club had a cream of talent at it's feet, and a number of BSMA Team Trophies found their way back to Dorset. The 1970's was probably the clubs peak time, not only in success on the track, but also boasted to be the biggest BSMA club in the country. During this time the Ringwood club had the best tracks and the best riders, and 1984 again saw the Ringwood Schoolboy Scramble Club inscribed onto the BSMA Team Event shield as Winners!
In 1988 the Ringwood club realised there was a demand for an Automatic 50cc class to be introduced into the sport, and the club was the first in the country to hold races especially for Automatic 50cc machines, and the response was very enthusiastic and keen, the idea soon caught on with many other clubs around the country.
The Ringwood Schoolboy Scramble Club (RSSC) was steeped in tradition and always was a real family orientated club until its sad closure in 1995.
A decade had passed with no Ringwood Club to mention until in the Autumn of 2004 a small group of enthusiasts this time all with connections to the Ringwood Schoolboy Scramble Club set about to bring back a famous old name to the sport of Youth Motocross. Peter Coates was made President, Rita Coates became Secretary with Keith Newman as Chairman, Wayne Parker Vice Chairman, Sue Adlem Membership Secretary and Lesley Taylor was the Racing Secretary.
Times had changed and purpose built circuits were soon found and the Ringwood name was re-affiliated to the British Schoolboy Motorcycle Association at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in November 2004. The Ringwood Youth and Adult Motocross Club was again greeted with enthusiasm and each year memberships has grown to around 400 members.
Tradition has followed and the Ringwood club regularly stages fortnightly races meetings on some of the South's premier motocross circuits. The opening round of the "Best of British" National series was very successfully staged in April 2007 and 2008 at Matchams Park. In June 2009 the Ringwood Club held the BSMA Semi-Finals at Cusses Gorse, an event they again staged on June 13th 2010, at Foxholes MX Park.
The birth of the "Best of British" Auto Championships in February 2008 has again put the Ringwood Club firmly on the map for all to see as a club which continues to help the youngest members into the sport of Youth motocross. This Championship is without doubt the pinnacle for all six to eight year olds to compete in, and has proved so popular that the series has become over subscribed.
The Ringwood Motocross Club, as it has become known to so many has again become a leading club in Youth and Adult motocross, and the real family laid back atmosphere has encouraged it to become one of the largest in the country.
Today's race meetings are now enjoyed by Youth competitors aged 6 - 18 years of age, along with two Adult open classes - AMX Open for the under 30's and the Veteran's (VMX) for the over 30's and Adult Novice rider's.
